Michael Hanaray receives Papal Knighthood

Pope Francis appointed Diocesan Treasury Committee chairperson Mike Hanaray a knight of the Papal Order of St Sylvester in recognition of his service to the Catholic Church in the Hamilton diocese and nationally. A presentation was made by Bishop Stephen Lowe at Mr Hanaray’s home on July 10 2023.

Mr. Hanaray has contributed over 40 years of service to the Hamilton Diocese and was one of the founding members of the Diocesan Financial Council, established in the early 1980s. He continues to play a vital role to this day. He also serves as the current chairperson and is a long-standing member of the Diocesan Treasury Committee, a director and chairperson of the Jubilee Catholic Early Childhood Centre Limited, a trustee of the St Mary’s Convent Chapel, and a member of his local parish finance committee.

His financial expertise, governance, sound judgment, and compassionate approach have also had a positive impact on the Catholic Church nationally. From 2008 to 2017, Mr. Hanaray served as an elected board member of New Zealand Catholic Education Office Limited and New Zealand Catholic Education Office Finance Limited.
